A type of aggregate known in the industry as “3 Inch Minus” (3″ Minus) crushed granite or road base. This material is a coarse blend of crushed granite rock where the largest pieces are approximately three inches in diameter, and the mix includes a complete gradation of smaller stones, down to very fine granite dust (the “fines”). The inclusion of these fines is crucial because it allows the material to be tightly compacted and interlocked into an extremely dense, stable, and durable base layer, making it an ideal choice for the sub-base of high-traffic driveways, roads, foundation footings, and other heavy-duty construction applications where stability under load is more important than rapid water drainage.
